Ralph Rollins, Director

Director and subject Ralph Rollins was a high school senior in the production class that created WILL I BE NEXT? Ralph guided the technical and creative production of this film, while also sharing his personal experience as a victim of gunfire. Rollins is currently studying at Harold Washington College in Chicago, Illinois. This documentary was a collaborative project by two advanced-project classes led by Free Spirit Media at North Lawndale College Prep Charter High School.

The students involved in this project were Ali Ahamad, Carmella Bland, Skyler Dees, Roy Holmes, Thaddeus Hughes, Britany Johnson, Clifford Jones, Xavier Pennington, Prittany Pierce, Brandon Prince, Alex Ragsdale, Ralph Rollins, Larry Quinn, Clinton Tripplett, Derrick Webb, Nannesha West, Joshua Williams, Sherina Wordlaw, and Cassandra Young.

Jeff McCarter, Producer and Executive Director

Producer and Executive Director Jeff McCarter founded Free Spirit Media, the youth media organization that provided the context for production of Will I Be Next?. Free Spirit Media was created in order to bring these experiences to underserved urban youth in Chicago. Jeff has extensive experience as a cameraman, editor and Emmy Award-winning producer. He has worked on feature films directed by Steven Soderberg and Ron Howard, and on documentary television with ABC News in New York, PBS, and WTTW Chicago. Jeff has developed and led Free Spirit Media’s in-school and after-school programs since 2000.

Elizabeth Czekner, Producer

Producer and classroom instructor Elizabeth Czekner is an interdisciplinary artist and educator, with a focus in video activism and documentary production. Elizabeth recently traveled to Cambodia where she facilitated media workshops with local artists. She holds a B.A. in art education, a teaching certificate from Ohio State University and a Masters of Fine Arts from Columbia College Chicago. Elizabeth currently teaches high school video production with Free Spirit Media at North Lawndale College Prep Charter High School in Chicago. She has worked in Columbia College’s Television and Interactive Arts and Media departments and has engaged in several independent and collaborative exhibitions nationally.
